Big Rapids 19 Paw Paw 7: The Cardinals begin the season with a victory, thanks to a strong effort on the ground. Three ballcarriers racked up 176 rushing yards to propel Big Rapids to victory. Cole Haist completed just 3/11 passes, but two completions were touchdowns to Owen Craven, passes of 22 and 29 yards. Big Rapids scored 17 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 early in the second quarter.

East Kentwood 43 Southfield A&T 8: The Falcons got off to a strong start, cruising past Southfield. Kayd Coffman was extremely efficient, finishing 11/14 for 311 yards and four touchdowns. Ahman Edwards, his top target, showcased his traits with 158 receiving yards and three scores. Edwards also returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown. Southfield was held scoreless offensively, with a kick return accounting for their only touchdown.
Forest Hills Central 18 Reeths-Puffer 12: The Rangers begin 2025 with a narrow victory over the Rockets. Nick Williams was 10/17 passing for 175 yards and a touchdown pass to Luka Nuo. Williams also added 55 yards on the ground. James Lachman had nine carries for 36 yards and a score, while Adam Piotrowski added 70 receiving yards and four tackles. This is the tenth straight season that FHC will start the season 1-0.
Forest Hills Eastern 26 Montague 14: Tim McGee started his head coaching career with a statement win over Montague. They doubled up the ‘Gue in total yardage, 289-182. FHE was balanced with 148 passing yards and 141 on the ground. Jordan Shabazz led the rushing attack with 85 yards. Kenric Penkevich was 13/18 passing for 148 yards.

Holland Christian 32 Allendale 24: The Maroons begin the year with a victory, taking down the Falcons. Grif Leuuw was 18/26 for 285 yards through the air, added another 63 rushing yards on 19 carries, and accounted for four touchdowns. Simon Grotenhuis had 107 receiving yards on six catches.
Hopkins 29 Fremont 14: The Vikings were outgained by 17 yards, but they still managed to take down Fremont in the season opener. Hopkins raced out to a 19-0 lead in the first quarter, before Fremont responded with two scores to trim the lead to five with just under seven minutes to play in the third quarter. Hopkins put together a drive that resulted in a 39-yard field goal before icing the game with a four quarter score.

Ludington 40 Coopersville 13: The Orioles got a phenomenal game from Cam Gunsell to top Coopersville. Gunsell had 34 carries for 246 yards and five touchdowns, in addition to completing 8/11 passes for 116 yards and a score. Check out our complete article here!
Manistee 42 Chippewa Hills 15: The Mariners start the season with a convincing victory over Chippewa Hills. Dayvion Neal-Berry was 5/8 passing, with three touchdowns. Ean Guenthardt hauled in two of them, and Braylen Zimmerman had the third. Landin Sowa led the rushing attack with 116 yards, while Wyatt Portasiewicz added 92 yards. On defense, Guenthardt had a team high 12 tackles and a sack.

New Lothrop 35 Muskegon Catholic Central 7: The Crusaders suffered a defeat in their season opener against one of the state’s perennial powers. MCC got an 81-yard touchdown run from Tim Railling early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 14-7, but they could not draw closer. New Lothrop finished with three straight touchdowns to put them away, outgaining MCC 376-188. Karson Agnew rushed 11 times for 95 yards and three scores, while also completing 13/18 passes for 193 yards and the other two touchdowns.

Tri-County 24 Ovid-Elsie 15: The Vikings toppled the Marauders in their Week 1 contest. Three Ovid turnovers and a blocked punt were crushing, leading to Vikings scores. Vaughn Veltman passed for two touch.downs in the victory.

Wayland 50 Lansing Waverly 27: The Wayland Wildcats begin the year with an explosive attack, putting 50 points up on Waverly. Wayland won this game without completing a pass, throwing three incompletions. Instead, they relied on their ground game, turning 46 carries into 447 yards and five touchdowns, dominating the time of possession at 31 minutes. Jake Reeder had 10 carries for 154 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Crater rushed for two touchdowns (8 yards and 32 yards), while Caleb Ellis added his own two-touchdown game that featured a 6-yard touchdown run and a 58-yard defensive score. Wayland got two defensive touchdowns, with Gustavo Carreno rumbling 35 yards for the other score.

Zeeland East 34 GR Union 8: The Chix cruised to a season opening victory. Will Drnek was 13/17 passing, racking up 146 yards and throwing for four scores. He was extremely effective, pairing up three times with Isaiah Boonstra for touchdowns. Boonstra finished with six total catches for 105 yards. Derek Baxter anchored the defense with 10 tackles and 4 quarterback pressures.

Brethren 34 Muskegon Heights 14: The Bobcats took down the Tigers in a season-opener. Brethren jumped out to a 12-0 lead early, before taking a 28-6 lead into the locker room. The victors rushed 51 times for 373 yards, with Cole Headley pacing the way with 223 yards on 23 carries. Muskegon Heights scored on a touchdown pass from Demetrius Purnell to Dalvin Day, and a kickoff return from Tayshaun Robertson-Moody.
