The Grandville Bulldogs hosted the Muskegon Big Reds in a great measuring stick opportunity for both programs. The offenses on both sides look lethal, with Grandville emerging victorious in a 44-40 shootout.

Early in the game, Grandville relied on their biggest star to get things started. Jayden ‘Tank’ Terry bounced off tacklers before racing for a 56-yard touchdown run. The successful two-point try gave them an 8-0 lead. Muskegon responded on their first play from scrimmage, as Arquez Petty ripped off a 72-yard touchdown sprint.

Before the first quarter was complete, Grandville would add to their lead. Using the deception of the T-offense, Josh Crater found a wide open Braylen Haney in the corner of the end zone for a two-yard touchdown pass, extending the score to 16-7.

In the opening plays of the second stanza, Muskegon returned to the end zone. Amiere Chandler got Muskegon closer to equal with his 20-yard touchdown carry. Four minutes later, Terry and Grandville returned to the end zone, as the senior star bowled into the ed zone from a yard out.

The offenses continued to click in the second quarter, as Muskegon’s third touchdown drive finally saw them succeed through the air. Lamar Bradford found Demetrius Rainey-Brown beyond the outstretched Grandville defense. This 34-yard strike put the Big Reds behind by three, 23-20. This score would hold as the teams went to halftime.

On the opening kickoff of the third quarter, Muskegon took the lead for the first time. Arquez Petty fielded that kick and raced 96 yards past the entire Grandville kickoff team and into the end zone.

Grandville would seize the lead back late in the third when DJ Hardiman showed an impressive display of power, strength and elusiveness on his 40-yard carry to the end zone. The Bulldogs led 30-27 as the game entered the fourth quarter.

In the first minute of the final frame, the speed of Tank Terry was on full display. He shot out of the Bulldogs backfield and burst down the field on an 86-yard touchdown sprint. This gave Grandville a ten-point edge, 37-27.

Muskegon again wasted no time to respond, as Keshawn Drummer became the latest Big Red to find the end zone. The Bulldogs would ice it when Jeffrey Fogelonger and Josh Crater paired up on a 23-yard touchdown pass. Muskegon’s final score with two minutes left would not give them the chance to mount enough of a comeback.

Grandville’s difficult schedule continues next week when they travel to Cass Tech. Muskegon will remain testing themselves against the OK Red when they face Rockford.
