The Zeeland West Dux welcomed Detroit Old Redford to the lakeshore for their 2025 opener. This was the first game as head coach for Jeff Bolhouse, who becomes the second coach in Zeeland West history, after 20 remarkable seasons from the legend John Shillito.

Though another man was wearing the headset, it still felt like the same Dux. They had 355 rushing yards on 40 carries, running the “Power T”, as they cruised to a 44-0 victory.

In the first quarter, Brandon Holman was in the spotlight. He got the scoring started with a strong defensive effort, stepping in front of a Ravens pass and sprinting 62 yards in the opposite direction to put Zeeland West ahead 8-0. Later in the quarter, Holman went for the Octopus to give West a 16-0 edge. The Dux star rushed for a 17-yard touchdown and followed it up with a rushing two-point conversion.

Nico Moungkhoun showed an impressive burst of speed early in the second quarter to push the Dux lead to 22. His 52-yard sprint to the end zone gave Zeeland West more cushion on the scoreboard. Before the half, Holman returned to the spotlight with a 2-yard touchdown carry.

Brandon Holman’s impressive evening continued in the early moments of the third quarter. His 44-yard touchdown run pushed the Dux edge to 36. This triggered the running clock, and with a ground attack in place, the remaining 22 minutes fly by. Logan Nash added the final score with a 10-yard touchdown carry in the fourth quarter.

It was 13 carries for 124 yards and three rushing scores for Holman. His defensive touchdown was the stamp on an impressive defensive night that saw Old Redford held to just 50 yards of total offense.

Next week, the Dux will take on West Ottawa. Old Redford will take on Ecorse in their search for their first victory.
