The Broncos traveled to Fruitport to face the Trojans this Friday night. They both had a 1-1 conference record, as Coopersville was able to gain the win against the Hawkeyes of Hamilton last week. The Trojans had complete control of the game on Friday, with a final victory of 37-20.

The first quarter was all Fruitport, as they were able to take the lead early and never gave the Broncos a chance to come back. Paschal Jolman broke into the endzone first with a 5-yard run followed by a failed PAT. Late in the quarter, Cody Nash ran it himself for a 5-yard score. The Trojans completed a successful 2-point conversion making the score 14-0 at the end of the first.

Coopersville opened the second quarter with an early touchdown in the eleventh minute. This came from the arm of Colton Bosch who spotted ​​a wide-open Ryan Serba for a 43-yard touchdown pass. After a successful extra point, the second and third quarter was quiet for both teams.

The action picked up again in the fourth quarter when Fruitport was able to add another three touchdowns. The Jolman’s accounted for all of these, as Collin Jolman scrambled away from the pocket for a 29-yard score. This was followed by Paschal Jolman with a run of his for 13 yards. The final score from the Trojans came from a 43-yard run from quarterback Collin Jolman who has more rushing touchdowns than passing touchdowns.

The Broncos were able to construct a few scoring plays of their own. The first one came from special teams when Nick Gordon received the kickoff and returned it for six points of his own. The other score came from Bosch and Serba for a 15-yard pass.

In week 6 of the high school football season, Coopersville will host the Holland Christian Maroons who are coming off a 21-20 comeback win. Fruitport will be on the road to face their rivals, the struggling Lakers of Spring Lake, who are now 0-3 within conference play.
