The “Battle of the Falcons” took place this past Friday night when the Allendale Falcons traveled to the West Catholic Falcons in Grand Rapids. Allendale entered the week 1-1 in the OK Blue, while West Catholic was still undefeated. The Falcon battle was over pretty quickly, with West Catholic dominating play all night. The end score was 39-6.

The West Catholic Falcons are used to having a strong running game led by Tim Kloska. Allendale was able to put a stop to that asset, and force West Catholic to air out the ball more. This didn’t stop West Catholic, as Bernie Varnesdeel was able to throw four touchdowns, and two different rushers found the endzone. The first four touchdowns of the game came from West Catholic through the air. Barnesdeel found Ryar Snow for one and Andrew McAlary for a hat-trick.

Allendale was able to get a score on the board in the third quarter, however, this was the only time they would do so. It was a 5-yard run from Tyler Sparks, with an unsuccessful extra point attempt. West Catholic quickly responded with another touchdown of their own when Charlie DeBruyn ran it 53-yards to the house. The final score of the game came midway through the fourth quarter when Carter Perry carried it into the endzone after a 20-yard sprint down the field.

Next Friday night, Allendale will look to bounce back as they host the Crusaders of Unity Christian. The West Catholic Falcons will travel to Hamilton to face the Hawkeyes for another “Bird Battle.” They will look to continue their undefeated season, while Hamilton enters the contest with a 0-3 OK Blue record.
