The Unity Christian ‘Saders concluded their regular season with a final playoff tune-up against Fruitport. They had little trouble with the Trojans, completing the undefeated regular season in a 55-13 victory.

Unity Christian scored on eight of their ten drives, including their first three. Abe Rappuhn got the offense started with a 9-yard touchdown carry on drive #1. On the second drive, Cam Chandler rushed for an 85-yard score. Drew Chandler rounded out the run with a 34-yard jaunt through the Fruitport defense, giving the ‘Saders a 21-0 lead.

The second quarter saw more of the same offensively for Unity Christian. Cam Chandler found Drew Chandler on a 25-yard touchdown toss to get the frame started. On their next drive, the brothers paired up on their third passing score of the game, a 60-yard score. Unity took a 41-0 lead to the locker room when Micah Bush ripped off a 20-yard touchdown.

With the running clock in effect intermittently throughout the second half, the opportunity was greater for the teams to exchange scores. In the third quarter, Fruitport scored first on a Gavin Reames quarterback keeper. Unity responded with a touchdown pass from Mitch Tibbe to Ethan VanOtterloo, a 19-yard play. In the final frame, Tibbe found Jared VanderZwaag on a 12-yard strike. Fruitport answered with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Reames to Paschal Jolman.

Cam Chandler completed 3/4 passes for 119 yards, while adding 144 rushing yards on 4 carries. Drew Chandler (93 yards) and Micah Bush (85) added strong rushing days. Drew led Unity with 119 receiving yards, including 104 yards after catch.

Gavin Reames finished 8/17 passing for 164 yards to lead Fruitport offensively. Reames (45 yards) and Paschal Jolman (49) led the rushing attack, while Jolman (75) was the star reciever.

Unity Christian enters the playoffs with a 9-0 record. Fruitport will sweat out the final few hours before Selection Sunday, hoping that they will hear their name called. Some projections have called for a rematch of these two teams next week, but we will find out officially on Sunday evening.
