The West Catholic Falcons and Comstock Park Panthers played in one of the most-anticipated matchups in Round 1, Add in the midweek venue change to historic Houseman Field, and there was a ton of energy surrounding this battle. Once the game kicked off, West Catholic cruised to a 42-0 victory, a statement for the Falcons.
As has been the case many times this fall, the combination of Noah Arsulowicz and Tim Kloska set the pace for the West Catholic offense. They each scored a touchdown in the first frame. Arsulowicz ripped off a 24-yard quarterback keeper, while Kloska darted to the end zone from 54 yards out.
In the second quarter, the signal-caller continued to thrive for West Catholic. Arsulowicz scored twice, on runs of 3 and 10 yards. Tim Kloska added a 1-yard plunge that moved the halftime score to 35-0.
After halftime, the running clock was in effect. On their first drive of the half, Charlie Debruyn scored his first touchdown of the year, a memorable moment for the sophomore. This was the final score of the evening.
Noah Arsulowicz was 3/6 passing for 12 yards, and he turned 14 carries into 106 yards. Tim Kloska shouldered the load with 26 carries, racking up 193 yards on the ground.
The West Catholic defense delivered a statement performance against a fire-powered Comstock Park offense. The Panthers averaged 50.5 points per game this year, and they got shutout for the first time since their shutout defeat in last year’s playoff opener against West Catholic. In the first half, Comstock Park had just eight yards of offense. By the time the game was over, CP had only racked up 38 yards.
Next week, the City League showdown is on. Grand Rapids Catholic Central, fresh off their own 42-0 shutout against an OK Silver team (Belding), will host the Falcons, putting their 33-game winning streak on the line.
