The Reed City Coyotes hosted Fremont on Friday with a chance to capture the conference title outright. They did just that, capturing a 46-21 victory.
After a scoreless first quarter, Reed City got on the board midway through the second quarter. Xavier Allen got the Coyotes on the board with a 1-yard plunge. Fremont would answer back with a rushing touchdown of their own, as Alex Gleason brought the Packers within a point. Shortly before halftime, Allen took to the air, finding Seth Jackson on a 33-yard score, giving Reed City a 16-7 lead.
In the third quarter, the Coyotes’ offense extended their lead. First, it was Zach Erickson who rushed for a 5-yard score. On their next drive, Noah Morgan reeled off a 30-yard touchdown, padding the lead to 23 points.
Fremont would respond as Justin Dirheimer broke off a 23-yard touchdown run. Reed City answered with two scores to secure control of this game. Zach Erickson and Noah Morgan each had lengthy touchdown runs, with Erickson’s being the longest at 60 yards.
Trailing 46-14 with a quarter to play, Fremont found the end zone one last time. Alex Gleason tossed it up to Michael Romero for a 9-yard score. That was the lone touchdown in the fourth quarter.
With this victory, Reed City secured their second straight undefeated conference title in the CSAA Gold, extending their league winning streak to thirteen games. The Coyotes, now 7-1, will wrap up their regular season against the Whitehall Vikings. Fremont slides to 1-7 after this loss, and they will face Cadillac, the lone team to beat Reed City this year, in Week 9.
