The Whitehall Vikings are one of three teams that can still win the West Michigan Conference. Prior to their big game against Montague in Week 8 that decides the fate of the league title, they needed to avoid a catastrophic upset against Hart. The crisis was averted after Friday night, as they cruised to a 46-6 victory.
Scoring was at a premium in the first twelve minutes. Kyle Stratton paired up with Nate Bolley, and the duo recorded an 18-yard touchdown strike. Jack McDowell pushed the score to 7-0.
In the second quarter, Whitehall opened with two touchdowns. Stratton and Bolley paired up first, a 6-yard toss. On the second score, Alec Pruett burst through the front line for a 12-yard score.
Hart would finally find the end zone, as Kellen Kimes and Chance Alvesteffer paired up for an 8-yard score. Whitehall would respond with a pass from Stratton to Red Watson, covering 63 yards, and giving the Vikings a 28-6 lead.
Whitehall was good for three more touchdowns in the second half. First, Stratton used his legs on a 50-yard sprint. In the fourth quarter, it was Alec Pruett twice, rushing for scores of 14 and 15 yards. Alec Pruett finished with 193 rushing yards and three scores on 20 carries in this game. Kyle Stratton was 9/15 passing for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Nate Bolley finished with 71 yards.
Next week, as discussed above, Montague and Whitehall will face off. With it being the final week of WMC play, a Whitehall victory can create a tie amongst the leaders in the league. Oakridge is the other potential school that could obtain a share. Hart will take on Shelby, a competitive battle set between the 2-5 Pirates and the 0-7 Shelby Tigers.
