There are just two weeks left in the girls basketball regular season. Conference title races are being decided, and teams are positioning themselves for a solid MPR, in hopes that they can secure the top seeds in the district. This week, we looked at four teams and their performances. We also have the schedule for the area’s action this week below.
Caledonia (3-13)
The Caledonia Scots had one game this week, a Tuesday night tilt against the Rockford Rams. The Rams are a great basketball team, currently sitting at 13-4 (see below), and as a result they blitzed Caledonia defensively. This game was lopsided from the start, as the Rams raced out to an early lead before bringing home a 60-16 victory. This week, Caledonia hosts West Ottawa on Tuesday before visiting Grand Haven on Friday.
Central Montcalm (9-7)
This week, Central Montcalm only had a single game. In Friday night’s game, they travelled to Fremont to take on the Packers. This game was a tough battle by both teams, but the Hornets ultimately fell a little short, suffering a 43-38 defeat. Courtney Guelzo led the way with 14 points for Central Montcalm, while Bailey Vissman added nine. This week, the Hornets will host Big Rapids on Tuesday before visiting Chippewa Hills on Friday.
Forest Hills Central (12-5)
The Forest Hills Central Rangers’ girls basketball team won both of their games this week to balloon their record to 12-5. In a defensive battle that saw the teams tied at 18 at half, they took down Cedar Springs on Tuesday by a score of 44-42. Three days later, they went to Lowell and defeated the Red Arrows 43-28. Theryn was the star of the show once again for FHC, as she led the way with14, but Katy Majick added nine to compliment her efforts. This week, the Rangers will play two games, starting with a hosting of Ottawa Hills on Tuesday night. On Friday night, they will travel to FHN, where the league title may be on the line. Both teams enter this week with an 8-1 conference record.
Rockford (13-4)
This week, the Rockford girls team won both of their OK Red contests. On Tuesday, they went to Caledonia and swarmed the Fighting Scots with their tenacious defensive play. They held Caledonia to 16 points in a 44-point victory. On Friday night, the Grand Haven Buccaneers came to town and this game was closer. In the end, Rockford was able to come out with a 48-38 victory, their third in a row. The Rams have three games remaining on the season, two of which are this week. On Tuesday, they will host the 13-3 East Kentwood Falcons, before visiting the 15-1 Hudsonville Eagles on Friday.
