The Central Montcalm Hornets continued CSAA Silver play on Friday with their matchup against the White Cloud Indians. CM entered this one with a perfect 3-0 record, while White Cloud was looking for their first victory at 0-3. These teams continued on their divergent paths in game number four, as the Hornets cruised to a 58-0 win.

In the first quarter, Central Montcalm surged away from the opposition. They found the end zone four times on their way to 30 total points. On the first scoring drive, Jamison Johns broke free for a 42-yard touchdown sprint. McCoy Wernholm added the two-point try, and quickly it was 8-0. After forcing a stop, Wernholm went for the Octopus. The senior tailback paired together a 3-yard carry and a two-point conversion run to put CM ahead by 16.

Zayne Cooper capped off the third Hornet scoring drive when he found Brayden Peak on a 26-yard touchdown strike. Central Montcalm took that 30-point lead when McCoy Wernholm ripped off a 12-yard touchdown carry, and Cooper converted the two-point try.

In the opening moments of the second quarter, Wernholm completed his hat trick with a 2-yard touchdown carry. Just two minutes later, he returned to the end zone for a fourth time on a 21-yard dash to the end zone.

Already ahead 44-0, Central Montcalm would find one more scoring opportunity before the teams broke for the half. Haiden MacLaren darted through the Indian defense, and 35 yards later he gave the Hornets their 50-0 halftime lead.

With the running clock in effect, the scoring opportunities were limited. Central Montcalm got one final touchdown on a carry in the fourth quarter. Colton Smith scored on a 4-yard run, and Carson Bracey capped it off with a successful two-point conversion.

This is the largest shutout for the Hornets since they blanked Blanchard Montabella 59-0 back in 1998. With the win, Central Montcalm moves to 4-0 for the first time since 2019. Next week, they step out of league play for a game against Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port, a perennially strong program. White Cloud, 0-4 for the first time since 2018, will look to get right against Morley Stanwood.
