The East Grand Rapids Pioneers will be playing another week, after they captured their fourth victory of the year. In their “Heart of Gold” game, East disposed of Greenville 27-11.

The victors got off to a hot start, scoring both touchdowns in the opening frame. Scotty Millman found the end zone first, a 5-yard carry. On their next drive, Jack Higgins broke free for a 38-yard score. A blocked extra point left EGR ahead 13-0.

Greenville got on the scoreboard in the opening minute of the second quarter. Noah Foster, one of many talented kickers in the OK White, booted a 35-yard kick through the uprights.

East Grand Rapids would conclude the second quarter action with two more rushing scores. First, Millman broke free for a 50-yard jaunt to paydirt. With thirty seconds to play, Drew Caswell capped off a drive with a 10-yard touchdown carry.

The Pioneers maintained their 27-3 edge throughout the third quarter, and nearly throughout the entire second half. However, with sixteen seconds to play, Greenville found the end zone. Charlie Braman finished the game with an Octopus, rushing for a 10-yard touchdown and the ensuing conversion.

EGR outgained Greenville 360-263 in this game. The Pioneers rushed for 302 of those yards on 37 carries. Scotty Millman spearheaded that attack with 15 carries for 131 yards. Caswell (62) and Higgins (52) also added strong performances.

The Pioneers will learn their playoff opponent on Sunday. Greenville finishes their season at 1-8, the sixth straight losing season for the ‘Jackets.
