The Saxons have accomplished many things over the past two years, including a pair of Interstate 8 championships. This year, they made important postseason strides by defeating Charlotte and capturing the program’s first district championship.

Charlotte scored first, on an 11-yard pass from Christian Powers to Braden Hill. This would be the lone first quarter scoring action, with the visiting Orioles holding a 6-0 advantage.

Hastings would counter in the second quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run from Isiah Wilson. On the final play of the first half, Robby Slaughter booted a 23-yard field goal to give the Saxons a 9-6 halftime advantage.

Charlotte would retake the lead with the third quarter’s only score. Again, Powers took to the air. This time, he found Carson Berkmopas on an 8-yard strike.

Trailing 13-9, the Saxons remained patient on the ground. Slaughter took the reins with a 7-yard touchdown run. Lanny Teunessen added the tw0-point conversion. With less than three minutes to go, Isiah Wilson iced the game with an 8-yard carry.

Hastings outgained Charlotte 306-189, with 254 rushing yards on the ground. Teunessen, despite not scoring, finished with 114 rushing yards on 14 carries.

Next week, Hastings will have an extremely difficult task with Edwardsburg. The Eddies are a perfect 11-0 and defeated Niles 24-17 on Friday night.
