Caledonia welcomed Hudsonville into town on Friday for their sixth game of the 2023 campaign. Many in the area saw this as a statement opportunity for the Eagles, who have played better as of late. Instead, it was Caledonia who flexed their muscle in a 30-0 shutout victory.

It was the Brock Townsend show in the first half. The senior tailback found the end zone on three separate occasions to give Caledonia a 21-yard lead. After sprinting past the Eagles’ defenders for a 36-yard score in the opening frame, Townsend caught a Brody Betser pass for a 25-yard score in the second. Before halftime, Townsend added a 1-yard plunge.

Caledonia tossed in a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter, before Betser used his legs for a 23-yard scamper in the fourth.

The Fighting Scots defense held Hudsonville to 105 yards of offense in 53 plays. The Eagles lost a fumble and threw a pair of interceptions. Derek Pennington Jr paced the team in tackles with 6, while Brent DeYoung added two sacks.

On offense, Brody Betser finished 13/20 passing for 144 yards and a score. Townsend turned 13 carries into 66 yards and two scores, while adding 42 receiving yards. Maddox Greenfield chipped in 92 offensive yards (67 rec/25 rush).

Caledonia, now 5-1, takes on Grandville next week. With this defeat, Hudsonville slides to 4-2. Next week, they look to rebound against West Ottawa.
