The Kent City Eagles struggled in their first two games, narrowly escaping against Newaygo before suffering a shocking defeat against Hart. This week they began CSAA Silver play, and things returned to normal as the Eagles won 48-6 against the Lakeview Wildcats.

Kyler Larson, the junior quarterback for Kent City, got the scoring started with a 56-yard touchdown run. After getting a stop, Larson tossed the football to Kyle Montarusso, who broke free and sprinted 94 yards to the end zone for Kent City’s second score. Two successful two-point tries gave them a 16-0 lead after twelve minutes.

Kent City would add a trifecta of touchdowns in the second quarter to take complete control in this game. Larson and Hayden Carlson connected for a 55-yard touchdown strike to get the scoring started in this frame. Zane Kik (1 yard) and Mason Westbrook (25 yards) each used the ground game to find the end zone, giving the Eagles a 40-0 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Kent City scored their final time. Westbrook broke off a 44-yard touchdown run to conclude a stellar offensive display in which the team scored 48 points and accumulated 436 yards. Kyler Larson finished the game with 170 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Lakeview’s option attack was thwarted all night. Mason Westbrook led the defense with 8 tackles. Joe Anderson added 5 tackles and a TFL, and James Farrington recorded 5 tackles.

Next week, Kent City will take on the Mohawks of Morley-Stanwood. Lakeview will remain in conference against Hesperia.
