Bowling is back! The MHSAA Bowling season is here, and Michigan Sports Radio will bring you a weekly “Alley Talk” update. This will include scores and highlights from around our coverage area.

 

  • Allendale boys bowling defeated Unity Christian 19-11. Unity put together a performance that topped last year’s best efforts, but Allendale came out hot. The Falcons got a 252 from Peyton Selk to lead all bowlers, while Ephraim Dykstra, Kyler Hinken, Sean Jenkins and Will Anama joined him in the 200-game club.
  • Frankenmuth defeated Alma 28-2 and Swan Valley 29-1 in their TVC opening weekend matches. Hunter Schmitzer led the way with a 202 against Swan Valley, while Mayson Knop added a 210 against Alma.
  • Fremont completed a program sweep of Western Michigan Christian. The boys won 27-3 with a 203 from Gabe VanVleet and a 148 from Jacob Walker. The ladies won 30-0. Makayla Johnson posted a 161, while Annika Yuhasz added a 148.
  • Fruitport boys secured the OK Blue Pre-Conference Tournament on Saturday. They narrowly defeated Unity Christian by 12 pins. Key series for the victors include Gage Wadland (629), Jray Conklin (582), Bradon Krohn (571). The finishing order was as follows: Fruitport, Unity Christian, Allendale, Coopersville, and West Catholic. Will Anama (Unity Christian, 611); Nate Diephouse (Allendale, 208), Sean Jenkins (Allendale, 566) and Kyler Hinken (Unity Christian, 547) also had strong performances.
  • Grandville took down East Grand Rapids in boys bowling 29-1.
  • Hastings hosted Ionia on Tuesday for a home match. The Varsity girls match ended in a 15-15 draw. The Saxons were led by Amber Rabideau, who scored 175-142 to earn two points. Ally Herder added a 203 game. The boys lost to Ionia, 22-8. Hunter Pennington paced the team with a 196 game.
  • Otsego girls took down a short-handed Paw Paw team 30-0. Alicyn Klok shot a 175 to pace the victors. The boys were down a few guys due to college visits, but they still managed an 18-12 victory. Otsego defeated Vicksburg in their Wolverine boys opener 17.5-12.5. Connor Farrish (339) and Jack Ordaway (335) led Otsego, while Isaac Adams (330) paced Vicksburg. There is no girls team at Vicksburg, so Otsego records a 30-0 victory.
  • Sturgis went to the Macomb Dakota Cougar Classic over the weekend. Lydia Boland finished 14th overall with a 330 series. Garrett Liston finished 13th to lead the Trojans boys with a 376 series. Both teams qualified for the bracket play. Earlier in the week, the Trojans nearly swept Paw Paw 29-1. Brayden Smoker posted a 346 series, which was only bested by Caleb Henson-Bohlen (357) and Andrew Matz (362). The Sturgis girls team swept Paw Paw 30-0. Lydia Boland posted a 268 series to lead the team.
  • Unity Christian girls bowling blanked Allendale 30-0. Jennifer Mohr (171-182) and Lauren Vander Maas (178) led the victors. Earlier in the week, the Unity boys defeated Coopersville 18-12. Will Anama had a 233, while Ephraim Dykstra added a 182. The ladies defeated the shorthanded Broncos 29-1 with Lauren Vander Maas posting a 210-176 series.
  • West Catholic Girls secured the OK Blue Pre-Conference Tournament title. They defeated second place Unity Christian by 101 pins. Kayla Van Linden led WC with a 602 series. Lauren Vander Maas (Unity, 493), Byrnna Hanson (Fruitport, 561) and Raegen Dykstra (Fruitport, 501) had strong individual efforts. The finishing order was as follows: West Catholic, Unity Christian, Fruitport, Coopersville, and Allendale.
