Hastings opened their 2022 playoff campaign with a 40-7 throttling of Vicksburg. It was the seventh straight victory for the Saxons, as they advance to the District Finals.

On the opening kickoff, Hastings set the tone. Robby Slaughter fielded the opening kick and raced past the coverage team for a 90-yard touchdown. The Saxons added a two-point conversion on a pass to Haiden Simmet.

Vicksburg would respond on their ensuing drive, as Michael Wright broke free for a 55-yard touchdown carry. The one-point deficit was the closest the Bulldogs would get all night.

Hastings would score again in the first quarter on an Owen Carroll touchdown pass to Lanny Teunessen. In the second quarter, Teunessen and Carroll each found the end zone from 3 and 12 yards respectively. This gave the Saxons a 26-7 halftime lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, Hastings struck twice in the final frame. First, Isiah Wilson scored on a 1-yard plunge. Finally, Teunessen powered across the goal line from a yard out.

Hastings outgained Vicksburg 355-211 in this win. Owen Carroll was 6/8 passing for 111 yards. Lanny Teunessen powered the ground game with 89 yards on 12 carries. Isiah Wilson added 72 yards on 14 carries.

Next week, Hastings will welcome Charlotte to town for the District Championship showdown. The Orioles are 9-1, with a 27-15 victory against Chelsea in their opening round.
