The South Christian Sailors wrap up an undisputed OK Gold title run with their first undefeated regular season since 2000. The final stepping stone to that goal was Friday night’s 56-22 shootout victory over Forest Hills Eastern.

In the first quarter, South Christian raced out to a 21-0 lead. Jake DeHaan kept the football for a 1-yard sneak on the opening scoring drive. The Sailors’ gunslinger would throw for the following two scores, finding Seth Ritsema (49 yards) and Carson Vis (23 yards).

Forest Hills Eastern snapped the run when Bryson Kuzdzal, fresh off an offer from Michigan State, capped off a 5-play, 77-yard touchdown drive with a 4-yard carry.

South Christian answered with three touchdowns of their own to take complete control. DeHaan used his legs first, carrying the football for a 12-yard touchdown. He would then pair up with Ristema (44) and Vis (39) again to put South Christian ahead 42-7 at halftime.

The Hawks scored first in the second half, a 4-yard run again from Kuzdzal. The Sailors would counter with two more touchdown passes from DeHaan to Carson Vis. These scores of 10 and 12 yards respectively put South Christian in front 56-15 with 6:00 to play.

An 80-yard touchdown pass from Brendan Thompson to Jacob Heemstra would be the final count for FHE in this defeat.

Jake DeHaan was phenomenal for South Christian. He completed 22/29 passes for 353 yards and 6 touchdowns. He added 68 rushing yards and two additional scores on 15 carries.

Both teams will be in the playoffs next week. South Christian (9-0) will be at home, while Forest Hills Eastern (6-3) will await their fate on Sunday.
