Grand Rapids Catholic Central concluded their regular season at 8-1, taking down Middleville 35-7.

In the first quarter, GRCC scored twice. Connor Wolf got things rolling with a 1-yard quarterback plunge. With five seconds left in the opening frame, Wolf found Billy Mikolay for an 8-yard score.

Neither team scored in the second quarter. The third quarter saw a trio of Cougars’ scores to trigger the running clock. Wolf and Nate VanTimmeren got this run started with a 39-yard scoring play. Brayden Sweeney entered the game at quarterback, and he found Mikolay for a 35-yard touchdown. Finally, Wolf and Michael App paired up on a 29-yard toss.

Middleville would prevent the shutout with a touchdown coming with 1:21 on the clock. Brendan Peters powered across the goal line from two yards out, and Braden Sharrar capped off the drive with an extra point.

The Cougars, 8-1, will begin their pursuit for a fourth straight State Championship next Friday. Middleville, meanwhile, concludes their season at 2-7.
