The Byron Center Bulldogs completed a strong regular season with a victory over the Grand Rapids Christian Eagles on Friday. It was a close game that the Bulldogs secured, 22-20.
Byron Center scored on each of their first two drives to take a 14-0 lead. Hunter Schichtel kept the football for the first score, powering the ball across the goal line from two yards out. On their next series, Luke Laska broke free for an 18-yard touchdown.
Grand Rapids Christian would get their own touchdown to draw closer, as Tony Phillips powered in from two yards out. In the third quarter, the Eagles drew even with a 3-yard score from Phillips.
Byron Center would re-extend their lead with Landon Tungate bowling across the goal line from a yard out. He would complete the Octopus with a successful tw0-point run.
Grand Rapids Christian got their fourth quarter score on a pass from Alex Wickstrom to Jude Klunder, but the Eagles could not convert the two-point try.
Byron Center will be in the postseason next week. Given the strength of their projected district, they will likely be on the road. Grand Rapids Christian’s season concludes at 3-6.
