Newaygo reclaims the Battle of M37 in the 73rd meeting between the Lions and Tigers, 25-12.

The scoring started 3-minutes in when Grant Harkness found Dyllan Bazzett on an 8-yard completion and score. Josiah Long converted the PAT. 2-minutes later, Newaygo’s defense prevailed and scores on the scoop and score from Bazzett. The 1st quarter scoring ended with a Josiah Long field goal, giving Newaygo the 17-0 advantage after one.

The 2nd quarter got started with an Ethan Reyburn 2-yard rushing touchdown for Newaygo. Harkness rushed for the 2-point try. The Tigers finally got on the board with Oakley Obernauf completing a 2-yard touchdown pass to Cohen Garrod. The Lions led at half 25-6.

Both defenses stepped up big in the 3rd quarter. When the 4th quarter rolled around, Grant’s Obernauf had a 68-yard rush to give the Tigers another score. Their 2-point try was no good. The Lions come out victorious 25-12.

Grant drops to 1-4 on the season. The Tigers will hit the road to Big Rapids in week six. Newaygo takes back the M37 Trophy and moves to 2-3. The Lions travel to Reed City next Friday.
