The Forest Hills Eastern Hawks defeated South Haven on Thursday evening. As a result, they will start the year 2-0 for the first time since 2015. In their defeat of the Rams, they racked up a 56-22 final tally.

The 56 points scored by FHE is the most since 2015, when they put 56 on Wayland in their Week 2 victory. Forest Hills Eastern scored on their first five drives of the game, and their first three drives of the second half. As a team, FHE finished with 381 yards of offense, 220 on the ground.

Bryson Kuzdal scored the first two touchdowns of the game. He fielded the opening kick and raced 89 yards for a score. Later, he followed that up with a 2-yard touchdown run. The next two touchdowns came on the arm of quarterback Brendan Thompson. First, Thompson paired up with Drew Patten on a 5-yard toss. Early in the second quarter, he found Mac DenBraber for a 13-yard touchdown connection.

South Haven would finally breathe some life into their play with two of the final three touchdowns of the first half. Xavier Harrington reeled off a 25-yard run, and Brad Dannenburg powered across from a yard out. Sandwiched in between was Preston Hoexum toting the football 7 yards across the goal line. As a result, it was 35-14 FHE as the teams broke for halftime.

In the second half, FHE started out with two more quick scored. Patten and Thompson paired up on a 12-yard pass first, and Matt Stotts added an 11-yard touchdown run. William Morgan would round out the Hawks’ scoring with a 14-yard carry in the fourth quarter. Preston Hoexum paced FHE with 67 rushing yards. Brendan Thompson finished 10/15 passing for 161 yards. Mac DenBraber was the leading receiver for the Hawks with a three-catch, 53-yard performance.

Next week, OK Gold play starts for the Hawks. They will face Kenowa Hills, who enters at 0-2. South Haven will look to improve on their 1-1 mark when they face Delton.
