Battle Creek Lakeview started their season off with a bang against crosstown foe Harper Creek. The Spartans started the scoring off with a 48-yard touchdown run by Romele Reed. Lakeview added to their first quarter lead with a pair of touchdowns in the second by Zachary Kucharczyk and Kory Lenneman to take a 21-0 lead to the break.

The Spartans would add to their lead with a score from Jacob Kucharczyk, which would be more than enough to take a 28-6 win back home. Jesus Macedo would score the lone touchdown for Harper Creek, a 1-yard carry in the fourth quarter.

The Spartans were led by the dynamic duo of brothers, Jacob and Zachary Kucharczyk. Jacob ran for 117 yards on 6 carries and a touchdown averaging an outstanding 19.5 yards per carry, while brother Zachary ran for 32 yards on 7 carries, an interception, and a touchdown. Romele Reed added 86 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.

Harper Creek only managed 154 yards of offense, including (-2) passing. Bronson Carpenter led the Beavers with 66 yards rushing on 19 carries.

Lakeview will take on River Rouge next Friday, as they look to move to 2-0. Harper Creek will face Battle Creek Central next Thursday in search of their first win.
