The Lowell Red Arrows kicked off their 2022 campaign on the road against the Mattawan Wildcats. An electric first quarter began with a 43-yard pass from Ryan Van Liere to Landon Berchiatti to give the Wildcats the early lead. The Red Arrows responded with a 1-yard touchdown run. Ryan Van Liere would respond with an 80-yard touchdown run to give the Wildcats the lead back. The Red Arrows would go on to score 21 unanswered points, which gave them the lead 28-14. The first quarter offensive marathon ended with a 20-yard pass from Van Liere to Ryan Kiesling. The 28-21 Lowell advantage would carry into halftime.

Lowell would add two more touchdowns in the third quarter to bust the game open and start the season 1-0 with a 48-28 victory. Lowell will take on Thornapple Kellogg next Thursday, while Mattawan will be on the road to take on Marshall next Friday.

Ryan Van Liere finished 10/24 passing for 167 yards and three touchdowns for Mattawan. He also had two interceptions. Van Liere also paced Mattawan’s rushing attack with a 90 yard performance.

Lowell rushed the football 61 times for 355 yards and five scores. They were efficient passers, completing five of six passes, two for touchdowns. Jackson Reisbig, the Red Arrows signal caller, led the way for Lowell, racking up 171 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Tacho Gonzales also hit the century mark, with 117 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
