The Fennville Blackhawks are a team on the rise in 2022. They have garnered some attention in the preseason due to the return of quarterback Ben Peterson, amongst others. Their offensive prowess was on full display in their Week 1 win over Red Arrow (New Buffalo and Three Oaks River Valley) 68-26.

Ben Peterson started off the season with another strong showing. He completed 12/16 passes for 234 yards and three scores. He also carried the ball 12 times for 180 yards and four scores. Defensively, Peterson added 11 tackles, two for loss, and a forced fumble.

Mac Machado showed the bright future at quarterback in relief on Thursday. He completed two of three passes for 29 yards. He also rushed for 40 yards, and racked up two total touchdowns.

Quinn Rosema had three catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. Nathan Griffin added 86 yards and a touchdown catch on six receptions. Aidan Swingle left his impact in all three facets of the game. Swingle had a receiving touchdown, five tackles, a sack, and an 82-yard kick return touchdown. Makai Weimer and Devohn Calhoun each added 8 tackles for Fennville. Weimer also had an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

This game was 60-12 Fennville at halftime, but Coach Richard Roth felt like the team took its foot off the gas a bit too much in the second half. He was proud of the effort his team put out there in the opening game, and he looks forward to their week two matchup with Marcellus. For Red Arrow, the schedule gets even tougher next week, as they will face Bridgman.
