The Forest Hills Central Rangers were looking to complete an undefeated OK White campaign as they took on East Grand Rapids on Friday night. The Pioneers entered with the #38 ranking in Division 3, and they hoped to score an upset and a playoff berth. Forest Hills Central never allowed a chance for that to happen, securing a 28-0 shutout victory.
Neither team got anything rolling offensively in the first quarter, keeping the scoreboard empty. The second quarter saw Hunter Robinson step up to provide a spark for the offense. The senior signal-caller used his legs on a pair of scores, carries of 6 and 7 yards to give the Rangers a 14-0 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, Robinson used his arm to extend the lead. He found Conner Milton on a 43-yard touchdown strike. Finally, Ben Scholler rounded out the scoring with a touchdown run in the fourth quarter for FHC.
Robinson finished this game 3/6 passing for 100 yards, and he added 125 rushing yards on 18 carries. Conner Milton led the way with 96 receiving yards on two catches.
Defensively, Ben Scholler recorded an interception. Jack McNamara and Ty Hudkins each recorded six tackles.
The outright OK White crown is Head Coach Tim Rogers’ third crown in five years. This is the twelfth league title in program history. The only other time the Rangers won three straight league crowns was between 1990-92.
Forest Hills Central has positioned themselves for a home game in Round 1 of the playoffs. They will learn their opponent and pathway for a playoff run on Sunday. East Grand Rapids appears unlikely to receive an invitation to the postseason with their 3-6 record.
