The Muskegon Heights Tigers have not played a football game since October 25, 2019. On Friday night, the Tigers made the bus ride to Potterville to take on the Vikings, the same team they earned their last victory against, on August 30, 2019. Nearly two years to the date, the Tigers repeated history with a 42-6 thrashing of Potterville.

Muskegon Heights struck first when Anthony Floyd broke off a 5-yard touchdown run. Damond Davis converted a two-point try that gave the Tigers an 8-0 lead early. Later in the quarter, the Heights extended their lead to fourteen points on a pass from G’Nari Davis to Ashton Smith that went for 52 yards.

Potterville, down 14-0, finally got on the board in the second quarter. They got a short touchdown run from Mikey White to pull within eight points. With just five seconds remaining before the halftime horn, G’Nari Davis and Emarion Mason connected for a 9-yard touchdown. This gave the Tigers a 22-6 edge at halftime.

The second half saw more of the same for Muskegon Heights. They scored twenty unanswered points coming out of the locker room to finish off this statement victory. Ashton Smith got things rolling with a 27-yard touchdown burst, and Ja’Kari Edwards scored on a 20-yard run. In the fourth quarter, Ja’Kari Edwards and Damond Davis paired up for a touchdown pass of fifteen yards.

Muskegon Heights outgained Potterville 476-198 in this victory. The Heights rushed for 283 yards on 32 carries, with 70 yards on the legs of Anthony Floyd leading the charge. Darrice Totten (79 yards) and Ja’Kari Edwards (69 yards) joined the three-pronged attack. Ashton Smith was dynamic receiving the ball, as he accumulated 152 yards on just five catches.

Next week, Muskegon Heights will look to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2010 when they host Calvin Christian. Potterville will start CMAC play against Bath.
