The Hudsonville Eagles and Caledonia Fighting Scots each began OK Red play on Friday night. The Eagles showed why they are viewed by many as the best in the area, as they cruised to an easy 38-6 victory.

On its opening drive, Hudsonville was unable to move the football. They were quickly forced into a three-and-out, and they gave the football to the Fighting Scots. Caledonia moved down the field a bit, but ultimately a turnover gave the ball back to the Eagles at their own 42. After both teams exchanged punts once more, Hudsonville finally broke free. Braylon Miller gave the Eagles their first six points with a speedy 16-yard carry to the end zone.

After forcing another Fighting Scots punt, Hudsonville got a quarterback keeper from Brayden VanLaecke to push their lead to 14. Caledonia would respond midway through the second quarter, as they completed a remarkable 96-yard touchdown pass. Conlan Schultz found Aaron Collins, who outraced the Eagles’ defenders on his way to the endzone.

Zaidan Dykstra would give Hudsonville one last touchdown before the half, as he stepped in front of a Caledonia pass and raced 46 yards to the end zone. At the break, it was 21-6 in favor of the Eagles.

The second half was all Hudsonville. Caledonia was unable to move the football, as they punted on all four possessions. Hudsonville meanwhile, found three scoring drive to separate from the Fighting Scots. VanLaecke had a pair of third quarter touchdown runs, carries of 15 and 28 yards, while John Tillotson booted a 27-yard field goal.

Hudsonville improves to 3-0 overall and starts 1-0 in the OK Red. Next week, they will continue league play against West Ottawa. Caledonia slides to 2-1 with this defeat. The schedule gets no easier for the Fighting Scots, as Grandville awaits them next Friday.
