The St Joseph Bears continued their hot streak on Friday night, eliminating traditional state power East Grand Rapids in a 49-10 rout.
The Bears got off to a blazing start, scoring the first 42 points of this contest. After a pair of East Grand Rapids touchdowns, St Joe put a bow on their victory with a late touchdown.
St Joseph outgained EGR 306-253 in this game, a remarkably close margin in a 39-point contest. Turnovers were not the story either, as it was just a 2-1 advantage for the Bears.
Matt Lanier (3/8 passing, 51 yards) and Joron Brown (1/1 passing, 60 yards) each threw for a score. Lanier (1) and Brown (2) also found the end zone on the ground. Hudson Lange and Jackson Lane also carried the football for scores. In the receiving corps, Brown scored in a third fashion with a 28-yard catch. Bobby Nate hauled in the pass from Brown for his score.
East Grand Rapids was led by Drew Caswell for a 108 yard rushing performance. Ian MacKeigan added 72 yards for the Pioneers.
St Joe will look to secure the district championship next week, when they take on Zeeland West.
