After a lackluster win over Hudsonville in their last game played before a lengthy weather-related interruption to the 2025-26 season, Rockford was looking to get back on track with a pair of league tilts this past week. Rockford first hosted Grandville on Tuesday. January 27 and set the running clock in motion as they pummeled the Bulldogs 75-41. They then journeyed to Grand Haven on Friday, January 30 in a clash between teams ranked well within the top ten in the state. The winner would also take over the sole leadership of the league standings at this early juncture. Rockford dominated the undefeated Bucs 64-48 as they put on a shooting clinic nearly all night long.
Rockford poured in 11 three-pointers on the night as they pushed out to a 25-point lead in the third quarter before cruising to the key win. The Rams saw an early double digit lead in the second quarter reduced to only a 32-25 edge at the half. But a 13-0 Ram start in the third quarter made it a 45-25 game and the rest was academic as Rockford played probably their finest game of the season from almost every perspective. Addison Wypych and Sienna Wolfe led the Rams with 17 points each. Wypych poured in three triples in the third quarter alone while Wolfe had 12 in the opening half. Kate Higgins had 11 points as she battled the 6’3″ center from Grand Haven from start to finish. Jordan Mateer added 10 while canning three triples of her own.
The Rams rebounded from their stale performance against Hudsonville by absolutely throttling Grandville from the start of the contest. The Rams led 19-10 after the first quarter before really kicking it into gear in the second quarter to the tune of a 28-8 advantage. A 23-9 third quarter pushed the lead past 40 points and the running clock was in effect for nearly the entirety of the final quarter. The Rams had only two players in double figures as balanced scoring ruled the day. Wolfe led the Rams with 16 points and Brooke Hambleton tossed in ten of her own. Annika Drollema and Mateer finished with nine points each and MJ Obenauf and Audrey Muterspaugh both finished with six points.
“Our last game with Hudsonville was pretty disappointing for all of us,” said Rockford Coach Brad Wilson. “I felt like we really didn’t play to our standards and it was something we talked about for the last week and a half while we were waiting to get another game in. We have a lot of senior leadership and these girls know what Rockford basketball is, what it was and where we want to be. I think the kids too it to heart and embraced the challenge and we played much more like we feel we should be playing. It was great to see our perimeter shooting return to form tonight. We have so many girls who can fill it up on a nightly basis and we all seemed to feed off each other tonight.”
The pair of wins moved Rockford’s record to 10-1 as they prepare for a trio of contests this week. Rockford will travel to East Kentwood on Tuesday, February 3 to square off with the Falcons. They will then host Hudsonville on Friday, February 6 in another OK Red contest. Both of these games are scheduled to tip off at 7:00 P.M. They will then square off with Haslett at Cedar Springs on Saturday, February 7. That is also slated to tip off at 7:00 P.M.
