The Gobles Tigers travelled to Concord to take on the ‘Jackets. It was a non-conference match-up, pitting the SWMFL’s Tigers and the Tri-Rivers ‘Jackets. A remarkable day by Eli DeYoung carried the Tigers to a 40-12 victory.
Concord scored quickly, as TJ Allen fielded the opening kick and raced 61 yards to the end zone. A failed kick put them ahead 6-0. From that point forward, it was 27 unanswered points from Gobles to take a commanding lead.
Eli DeYoung did a good chunk of the work, finding the end zone four unanswered times. He put together scoring runs of 9, 10, 14 and 35 yards. Gobles took their 27-6 lead into the locker room.
In the third quarter, TJ Allen tried to will Concord back into the game. He caught a 13-yard touchdown from Gavin Riske, but it would not be nearly enough. Eli DeYoung added two touchdown runs, carries of 1 and 14 yards, to ice this victory.
DeYoung completed all five passes for 82 yards. The victorious quarterback also had 35 carries for 178 yards and 6 scores.
With this victory, Gobles improves to 4-2 on the season. They will take on Bloomingdale in their final SWMFL-I meeting of the season. Concord slides to 4-2 with this defeat. They will take on another SWMFL team, Marcellus, in non-league action next week.
