The Byron Center Bulldogs and Lowell Red Arrows met on Friday night in one of the most anticipated games of the 2020 season. They were both unbeaten at 3-0, and this game was to claim the driver’s seat for the OK White title race, and to improve their playoff seeding. The game lived up to its billing, but ultimately the Bulldogs won this one 36-22.

Sawyer Wychers got the scoring started in this game for the Bulldogs, as he rushed for a three yard touchdown. The extra point was blocked, leaving the lead at 6-0. Doak Dean would put Lowell in front, as he ran one yard into the end zone. Dean’s two-point run was also successful, bringing the score to 8-6 in favor of the Red Arrows. They would hold this lead until the second half.

In the second half, these offenses exploded. Wychers started the scoring for Byron Center as he ran seven yards into the end zone. The Bulldogs lined up for two, and Wychers found Mason Breit for the conversion, making it 14-8.

Jason Sevigny got in on the action next for Byron Center, as he ran five yards into the end zone for a touchdown. Wychers and Breit connected once again for the two-point conversion, pushing the lead to 22-8. Lowell would respond with a five-yard touchdown run by Doak Dean, and a two-point conversion to pull within six as the game entered the final quarter.

Mason Breit’s stellar night continued, as he ran forty yards through the Red Arrows’ defense for a touchdown to extend Byron Center’s lead. Sevigny booted a successful extra point attempt. Lowell would respond with a touchdown pass from Dean to Bret Spanbauer, and the successful PAT kick made it 29-22.

Byron Center would add the insurance touchdown moments later, when Wychers found the end zone yet again. This was the third touchdown on a stellar night for Wychers, and it delivered a huge win for Byron Center.

With the win, the Bulldogs are 4-0. They will host Greenville next Friday night. Lowell (3-1) will look to rebound as they take on Forest Hills Northern, also at home.
