The Eau Claire Beavers continued their improvement last fall, moving from zero wins in 2019 to three wins in 2021. Their quest to improve on that mark and challenge for a playoff spot began with a bang on Friday night. Facing the Bloomingdale Cardinals, Eau Claire’s offense exploded in a 68-0 victory.
In the first quarter, Demarion Travis got things started with a 10-yard touchdown run. He followed that up with a 38-yard sprint. The offensive onslaught continued with an 11-yard touchdown run by Deshun Holmes. After pitching another stop, Demaron Travis found the end zone on special teams. He fielded a punt standing on his own 25 yard line, before racing through the Bloomingdale punt coverage team for a 75-yard score. Landon Baskin rounded out the explosive first quarter with a 50-yard touchdown run.
Demarion Travis completed a “hat trick” of sorts, by scoring in a third way during the second quarter. While playing defense for the Beavers, he stepped in front of a pass and raced 45 yards to the end zone. Angel Guzman would make his maiden voyage to the end zone in 2022 with an 11-yard touchdown run before halftime.
In the second half, the running clock slowed this game down. Landon Baskin (12 yards) and Angel Guzman (27 yards) scored in the third and fourth quarters respectively to round out the Eau Claire scoring. This 68-point performance is a new program record for Eau Claire, something they have never accomplished in their history.
Next week, Eau Claire begins SWMFL-II action against Lawrence. Bloomingdale will remain outside of league play when they take on Farwell.
