The Freeland Falcons defeated Goodrich 22-3 in the opening round of the playoffs. This week, they hit the road to face the Lake Fenton Blue Devils in a District Championship contest. It was a stellar showing by Freeland, as they cruised to a 37-6 victory in this contest.

After fumbling on the Lake Fenton 1 yard line on their opening drive, Freeland struck first later in the opening frame. Bryson Huckeby kept the football and ran for an 8-yard score, getting the Falcons on the board. Garrett Pistro powered across the goal line to extend the lead to eight points.

In the second quarter, Lake Fenton answered when Lucas Storm ripped off a 17-yard touchdown. A failed conversion left Freeland ahead 8-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Evan Vasicek took the kick back to the Lake Fenton 45 yard line. Huckeby returned to the end zone on a 1-yard keeper moments later, capping off a 7-play touchdown march. Pistro’s conversion put the Falcons ahead by 10 at the break.

After halftime, it was all Freeland. The Falcons outscored Lake Fenton 21-0. Bryson Huckeby’s third rushing touchdown was a 3-yard scramble. Later in the third quarter, Jacob Kundinger zoomed past the Blue Devils on a 35-yard touchdown carry. Finally, Huckeby aired it out to Grant Bakos on a 39-yard toss to round out the scoring. Alex Duley had two interceptions defensively in the fourth quarter.

Thanks to this victory, Freeland will return home for the Regional Finals next week. They will host the winner of Saturday’s district finals between Croswell-Lexington and St Clair.
