The Martin Clippers posted their fourth shutout of the season on Friday, as they blanked Marcellus 58-0. This was the final SWMFL-I game for Martin, who completed an undefeated league campaign with this dominating performance.
JR Hildebrand and Charley Martin led the way in this victory. JR racked up 12 tackles from his MLB position and on offense he rushed for a touchdown and threw for three more. Charley Martin was on the receiving end of one of those touchdowns, before taking over at quarterback in the second half. While directing the offense, Martin rushed for 82 yards on four carries, scoring a touchdown with his legs. On defense Charley also added an interception.
Bryce Robinson and Braeden Shanley each added a rushing touchdown, running the ball well from their running back positions. Shanley also caught a 65-yard touchdown pass, and Sam Jager added a 38-yard touchdown reception.
Jackson Robinson had nine tackles and Abe Dykstra added 7. Jackson Robinson, Bryce Robinson, and Abe Dykstra all recovered fumbles. Karter Ribble had a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown. We finished with 275-yard rushing on 29 attempts and JR threw for 160 yards (including the three touchdowns).
Head Coach Brad Blauvelt was once again pleased with his team’s efforts on Friday. “I’m proud of our kids, the game got chippy, and we did a good job of not falling into that trap. The win solidified our conference championship and is a steppingstone we are proud of. We are now starting to shift gears to make a deep playoff run; we need to get better in a few areas quickly.”
In their regular season finale, Martin will take on New Buffalo. The Bison are 4-4 on the season, and they have an explosive offense that has topped 80 points twice this fall. After this game, they will begin their march in the 8-Man Division 1 playoffs, looking to improve on last year’s semifinals trip.
