The Ravenna Bulldogs and Shelby Tigers have squared off 54 times since 1950, with Ravenna holding a 37-17 series advantage entering Thursday night. In their 55th meeting in 71 years, it was interestingly enough not a series “Scorigami” on Thursday night when the Bulldogs trounced Shelby 63-6. Fans may remember that the game ended on the exact same count just two years ago.

Ravenna was in complete control from the beginning of this game. In the first quarter, Ravenna scored 28 points to put this game out of reach within mere minutes. Hunter Hogan got things started for the Bulldogs with a 25-yard touchdown run just fifty-three seconds into the game. Three minutes later, Ravenna led 14-0 as Kyle Beebe joined the scoring party.

Thomas McCullough had a pair of explosive offensive plays that resulted for the final two touchdowns of the first quarter. First, McCullough made an impact on the ground with a 28-yard touchdown run. In the closing seconds of the first quarter, McCullough fielded a punt on the Ravenna 45 yard line. He weaved his way through the oncoming traffic, and fifty-five yards later, he was standing in the end zone.

Ravenna would add three more touchdowns to their tally in the second quarter. Kyle Beebe passed for the first two, as he connected with Grant Becklin and Clay Schullo for scores. Owen Scott gave Ravenna a 49-0 halftime lead when he scored a 3-yard rushing touchdown.

As the second half began, Ravenna’s special teams continued to pile on the points. Brady Stock fielded the opening kickoff on the 35 yard line, and he made his way through the coverage team for a 65-yard return touchdown. Hunter Hogan would add the final Bulldogs’ touchdown with a 37-yard run.

Shelby finally scored in the fourth quarter, as Travis Boughan plunged across the goal line from a yard out.

Ravenna, despite a 56-point win, only outgained Shelby 257-112. Kyle Beebe finished 2/3 passing for 84 yards and two scores, and he added 42 rushing yards. Hunter Hogan led the Bulldogs with 62 rushing yards. Defensively, Dayton Thomas led the team with 5.5 tackles, while Drew Mabrito had two sacks.

Next week, Ravenna will travel to Whitehall in WMC play. Shelby will look for their first victory when they host North Muskegon.
