The MPR totals have been calculated and heading into the final week of the regular season the brackets have now locked in and we can look ahead to the big dance. Let’s go through and give some initial thoughts on districts across west Michigan… Most of which will see live coverage from MSR!

 

DIVISION 1 @ MUSKEGON

Q’Finals- Mona Shores vs Reeths Puffer // Greenville vs Cedar Springs

Semis – Rockford vs MS/RP // Muskegon vs GREEN/CS

Initial Thoughts: This is a fascinating district for a ton of reasons, one of course, is how loaded the bracket is with Rockford and Muskegon likely a repeat collision-course. But also the winner of this district is set to dump into a a different region than the rest of West Michigan’s D1 teams – So, this will be the last test against familiar foes for whoever comes out of this district until the state quarters…

 

DIVISION 1 @ CALEDONIA

Q’Finals- Wyoming vs Plainwell // Caledonia vs T.K.

Semis – E Kentwood vs WYO/PLAIN // Byron Center vs CAL/TK

Initial Thoughts: The X-Factor here will be Byron Center and if they can knock off prohibitive favorite, Kentwood, BC are a very new look team off last year’s state Q’Final run, but Cassius Bont & Co still have the pieces and can mess with some varying defensive strategies to throw #2 EK off their game (Look out for Cal to maybe be able to do the same on their home floor in a possible massive semis upset). 

 

DIVISION 1 @ GRAND HAVEN

Q’Final – Holland vs Zeeland West

Semis – Grand Haven vs HOL/ZW // West Ottawa vs Zeeland East

Initial Thoughts – The WO/ZE game could be one of the highest-scoring and most up-tempo games of the year if both teams fully get into their game, and the expectation would be that we ultimately see an OK-Red rematch of GH and WO… The 1 seed Bucs dropped the first two matchups with WO, we’ll see if they can get one back on their home floor.

 

DIVISION 1 @ JENISON

Q’Final – Jenison vs Grand Rapids Union

Semis – Hudsonville vs JEN/GRU // Grandville vs Coopersville

Initial Thoughts: It all comes down to Grandville, if they can find their form that opened the year 10-0 with multiple marquee wins, it could be an all-time classic and a repeat of the incredible back-and-forth 2019 district title game between the Eagles and Dawgs at Jenison. Otherwise the red-hot Eagles would take on the methodical zone and dribble drive Broncos and in interesting schematic matchup.

 

DIVISION 1 @ Ottawa Hills

Q’Finals – Lowell vs EGR // FHC vs Ottawa Hills

Semis – Northview vs LOW/EGR // FHN vs FHC/OH

Initial Thoughts: Northview is of course the favorite, but look out for the Rangers of FHC to be poised to make a run all the way from Monday to the final and have a chance to use hot-shooting to upset the ‘Cats.

 

DIVISION 2 @ Allegan

Q’Finals – Hamilton vs Wayland // Allegan vs Hopkins

Semis – South Haven vs HAM/WAY // Holland Christian vs ALL/HOP

Initial Thoughts – Pretty open here with HC likelt proving as the favorite, but there will be quite a few matchups here of teams that don’t see a ton of each other outside of the postseason that makes things interesting

 

DIVISION 2 @ Comstock Park

Q’Finals – Kelloggsville vs Comstock Park // Northpointe Chr. vs FHE

Semis – Catholic Central vs KEL/CP // GR Chr. vs NPC/FHE

Initial Thoughts: It all sets up for GRCC vs GRC, in what should be another classic battle between the 2 GR private-school rivals.

 

DIVISION 2 @ Godwin Heights

Q’Final – Godwin Heights vs Grand River Prep

Semis – Unity Christian vs GH/GRP // South Christian vs West MI Aviation

Initial Thoughts: Unity Christian vs South Christian will be one of the games of the year, full stop, the ‘Saders have been a top 1-2 team in the state all year, but the Sailors have been playing well and know how to win in this spot – just as the Crusaders do.

 

DIVISION 2 @ Kenowa Hills

Q’Final – Allendale vs Wyoming Lee

Semis – Cov. Christian vs ALL/LEE // Kenowa Hills vs West Catholic

Initial Thoughts: This is pretty open, Kenowa Hills has been playing well all year long. Could provide an interesting neighboring rivals matchup if they see Covenant Christian in the final.

 

DIVISION 2 @ Sparta

Q’Final – Tri-County vs Newaygo

Semis – Grant vs TC/NEW // Fremont vs Sparta

Initial Thoughts  – Grant has been on a historic run this year, and have a chance to extend it with some district hardware… We’ll have this district well covered with a couple <MSR covered programs here.

 

DIVISION 2 @ Belding

Q’Final – Alma vs Ionia // St Johns vs Belding

Semis – Central Montcalm vs ALM/ION // Portland vs SJ/BEL

Initial Thoughts: Our Central Montcalm crew will be at this district as the Hornets, who currently sit at 16-2 look to pick up district hardware, they will likely see another very good team from Portland in the final.

 

DIVISION 3 THOUGHTS

There are two west MI districts here, one at Fennville that will feature an expected final between Calvin Christian and Potter’s House at Fennville and another played up at Kent City that the Eagles will be hoping to host, likely against 1-seed Blanchard Montabella.

 

DIVISION 4 THOUGHTS

One district here, the ‘Tri-Unity Christian Invitational’ has a twist this year as the reigning champs saw coach Mark Keeler retire and go out a champion at the Breslin Center last spring. Coach Brent Vorhees has the Defenders 17-1, so it will be a challenge for anyone to knock them off… Especially on their home floor.
