Last week, Grandville overcame a mid-game 3-score deficit, only to fall on a walk-off field goal against Pickerington North (OH) to fall in heartbreak fashion, 53-51. This week, Grandville hosted a hungry, state title contender Davison team fresh off a tough week one loss of their own to Warren De La Salle – And It happened again.

The Cardinals got off to a flying first half start, as their dominating interior defense stifled the Bulldogs, forcing a pair of turnover on downs plus a fumble, as their offense lit it top early. Led by junior QB Jaxson Dosh, who accounted for a part of TDs with his legs on the ground and two more passing TDs in the first (to Brayden Naves and Wesley Hughes). The Bulldogs worked in a 56-yard Easton Suidinski touchdown run to trail 28-7 late in the 2nd quarter.

The Bulldogs were able to get one more quick score with Suidinski in the final minute of the first half, to trail 28-14 at the break.

Grandville got the ball back to start the second half, and momentum immediately shifted, as standout junior Jayden Terry, after a quiet first half, found the end zone twice, after a missed XP on the first score, and a failed 2 point conversion on the second Grandville would trail 28-26 after three.

The Grandville defense would continue to come up with stops through the first quarter-plus of the half, getting the ball back to the offense early in the 4th, where senior Jake Keranen would knock home a 35 yard field goal to give Grandville their first lead, 29-28, with 7:35 to play.

Then the fireworks began in a close that resembled Grandville’s game a week ago in script, and in conclusion. Senior RB A.J. Hill scored for Davison first with 6:11 to go – notably following a 4th and 10 conversion earlier in the drive from their own side of the field on a. screen to Hill, to put the ‘Cards back up 34-29 after a missed 2 point conversion.

The Bulldogs then quickly struck back, as QB Ethan Newville hit a streaking Suidinksi for a 65 placation pass TD with 5:10 to go to give the ‘Dawgs a 37-34 lead, after the two connected again on the 2 point try.

Davison then ground the ball down the field, including another 4th down conversion on a 4th and one from the Grandville 30. Coach Jake Weingartz’s team timed it perfectly, as Dosh fired his fifth total TD on the evening with 5 seconds to go, hitting senior TE Payton Kokaly from 24 yards out to secure a 41-37 Davsison win.

The Cardinals move to 1-1 on the season, Grandville is now 0-2. The Bulldogs open OK-Red play next week on MSR, as they travel to Carlson-Munger Stadium to play the 2-0 Rockford Rams
