Central Montcalm was impressive in their week eight win over Newaygo knocking off the Lions, 32-0. It was the second week in a row that the Hornets had been completely dominant. This week may have been their best yet.
Central Montcalm started quickly in this one. Just minutes into the game Anthony Schultz would find some burst from 35-yards out to give his team an early 7-0 advantage. The Hornets defense came to play in this one and they would help keep that lead heading into the second quarter.
Midway through the second quarter the Hornets would get rolling again. Schultz would take one in from 18-yards out this time. The PAT would be no good but Montcalm found themselves with a 13-0 lead. Things would get pretty wild late in the quarter. For the third time in the half, Schultz would find the endzone again from 1-yard out. Montcalm was cruising at this point with a 19-0 lead. With everything going the Hornets way, that’s the way the half would end. Asher Johnson would pick up a scoop and score from 35-yards away. Montcalm with a big 25-0 lead at the half.
Things would slow down a bit to begin the half. Lakeview would finally find some life late in the quarter on a 5-yard run from Cam Perez. This would cut the lead to 25-7. Anthony Schultz was a man among men in this one. He would grab his fourth score of the night on a 40-yard run that would up the Montcalm lead to 31-7. All Hornets heading into the final quarter of the regular season.
Montcalm would cap off another scoring drive in the fourth quarter when Joey Morrow found his way in from 5-yards away. It was all Montcalm in this one as they cruise to their third dominate win in a row over Lakeview, 39-7.
Lakeview picked up a big win last week that could have help them pay this one off but they couldn’t get much started on this night. The Wildcats fall to 3-6 on the season as their season will come to an end.
This moves the Hornets to 5-4 on the year and should in all likelihood secure a playoff spot for them. Montcalm becomes a scary team to face heading into districts next week as they are playing some of their best football of the season. It’s been an impressive season for the Hornets and they will look to see if they can do some damage come playoff time.
