The last couple of weeks haven’t been kind to the Central Montcalm Hornet. After grabbing a week one win, the Hornets have fall the last two weeks. Central Montcalm would respond to that in a big way tonight over a Chippewa Hills team that has impressed at times this year.
We would have ourselves a defensive slugfest early on as things stood scoreless heading into the second quarter. Then it would be the start of a big quarter for Central Montcalm. That started with a 5-yard touchdown run from Joey Morrow. It would give the Hornets a 7-0 lead after a successful PAT try. The defense would then get in on the action as they would force a Warriors safety to make it 9-0, Hornets. Central Montcalm would take complete control of the game with just seconds remaining in the half. Sophomore quarterback Emmett Lingeman would find fellow classmate Brayden Peak on a 25-yard connection that had the Hornets cruising into the half with a 16-0 lead.
Central Montcalm would strike again early on in the third as Haden Train would punch one in from 1-yard out. This made it a 23-0 Hornets lead as they had everything working heading into the final quarter.
The Hornets would get things started in the fourth early on an Anthony Schultz 5-yard touchdown run. Central Montcalm would take a 30-0 lead after the PAT. Chippewa Hills would get to take a breath as they finally found the endzone themselves. Shortly after, quarterback Tyler Geer found Gage Perkins on a 63-yard touchdown pass. The Warriors would fail on the two-point try but it would make it a 6-30 game to that point. A successful start ended to a solid finish for the Hornets. They would reach the endzone late on a McCoy Wernholm 4-yard run. That would be all they needed on the night. Central Montcalm comes up big this Friday night knocking off Chippewa Hills, 37-6.
Chippewa Hills could never get much of anything going in the game. Aside from one big play on the night, the Warriors offense was held to just 122 total yards on the night. Things won’t get any easier for them in week five when they take on a Big Rapids team that has won three in a row.
This was a big one for the Hornets as they hadn’t had much success since week one. The Central Montcalm offense piled up 257 rushing yards on the night to set the tone throughout. Hayden Train led the way with 130 yards rushing and one touchdown for his guys. They’ll have a chance to see if they can keep Reed City down. The Coyotes start the season at 1-3 but it has been a series that they have dominated for quite some time now. The Hornets will look to see if they can pick up a monumental win when they head to Reed City next Friday night.
