Caledonia, after last week’s thrilling win over Romeo, returned to Ralph E. Meyers Memorial Stadium for their home opener against North Farmington. Much like the game a season ago, it was a breeze for the Fighting Scots, to the tune of a 42-7 victory.
In the first quarter Caledonia found the end zone twice. Brock Townsend started things off with a 10-yard touchdown rush. Later in the frame, Brody Betser connected with Derek Pennington Jr for a 9-yard touchdown toss. A pair of PATs from Nathan Maas gave Caledonia a 14-0 lead.
The second frame saw North Farmington tighten up defensively, allowing just one score. It was Townsend again, this time from 13 yards out, giving Caledonia a 21-0 halftime edge.
After the break, the Fighting Scots got a 9-yard touchdown rush from Blake Herron to extend their lead. Caledonia saw the running clock kick into effect when Betser and Lincoln Senti paired up for a 31-yard touchdown strike.
Dallas Moody broke through the North Farmington line in the fourth quarter, giving Caledonia a 42-0 edge. Their quest at a shutout was denied when North Farmington got a late touchdown pass.
Caledonia outgained North Farmington 436-133 in this game. The Fighting Scots had 335 yards on the ground, led by 145 yards from Brock Townsend and 77 yards from Brody Betser. Betser was perfect as a quarterback, completing 13/13 passes for 101 yards and two scores. Lincoln Fink led the recievers in yards with 31 on his touchdown catch, while Maddox Greenfield added 25 yards on five catches.
Caledonia now improves to 2-0 on the season. Next week, the Fighting Scots take on West Ottawa (0-2) in their OK Red opener. North Farmington slides to 0-2, and will begin OAA Blue play against Birmingham Seaholm (1-1).
