DOUBLE DRIBBLE: GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP 2/19/2023

2/13/23

  • Fennville picked up a tight win over Comstock, 30-23. This would be a tight battle throughout as the Blackhawks held just a two-point lead heading to the final quarter. Lila Rosema led Fennville with 10 points. Madisynn Jefferson followed that up with 8 points.
  • Hart cruised past Western Michigan Christian , 62-24. Addi Hovey (21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals) and Aspen Boutell (15 points) had big nights to lead the Pirates. Abby Hicks added 10 points and 5 assists. Hart has now won 13 games in a row as they sit at 17-2 overall and 10-0 in the WMC Rivers.The Warriors will drop to 7-10 overall.
  • Montague picked up a win on the road over North Muskegon, 42-27. After being down at the end of one quarter, the Wildcats started to take control of the game when they put together a great 2nd quarter (16-0). The Wildcats were led by Emma Peterson with 18 points. Haylee Schwarz followed up with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Grace Philpot (10 points) and Fran Vinson (8 points, 5 rebounds) paced the Norse. Montague will be back in action on Thursday at home when they take on Manistee.
  • Ravenna beat Muskegon Catholic Central, 50-19.

2/14/23

  • Edwardsburg would put together an impressive performance on both ends of the floor in their win over Sturgis, grabbing a win over the Trojans 58-16. Caitlin Tighe (13 points, 5 steals), Chloe Baker (13 points, 5 steals) and Kenzie Schaible (12 points) all led the Lady Eddies.
  • Fennville fell to Lady of the Lake Catholic, 5-36. The Blackhawks could never get on track in this one as they trailed 2-20 at the half. Fennville falls to 4-14 on the year while the Lakers improve to 8-9.
  • Greenville defeated Northview, 63-37. The Jackets improve to 10-9 on the year. Northview drops to 4-15. Megan Leslie (19 points) and Alexus Dunn (17 points) helped pace Greenville. Maghan Faust chipped in 9.
  • Hackett Catholic Prep knocked off a tough Galesburg-Augusta team, 42-32. Alyse Baughman put together a big night for the Irish with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals.
  • Kalamazoo Christian picked up a win over a very good Martin team, 43-31. The Comets held a 18-12 lead at the half but the Clippers were able to stay in the game the rest of the way. Makayla Goddard had a big night for Martin with 17 points.
  • Lawton would get out to a big lead before holding off Holland Black River, 54-42. McKenna Macon (23 points, 7 steals) and Kylee Somers (17 points, 7 rebounds) put together big nights for the Lady Blue Devils. Ella Richter grabbed 8 rebounds.
  • Lowell picked up a big road win over a tough East Grand Rapids team, defeating the Pioneers 65-51. Braxcynn Baker had quite possibly her best game of the year to lead the Lady Red Arrows with 31 points and 7 rebounds. Piper Risdon finished with 7 points and 14 rebounds. Lexi Howell added 10 points. McKenzie Munson pitched in 7 points and 7 rebounds. Macy Brown led the Pioneers with 30 points and 8 rebounds. MC Millman added 9. Lowell will look to keep things rolling when they take on Grand Rapids Christian on Friday. East Grand Rapids will look to see if they can get back on track against Forest Hills Northern.
  • Otsego defeated Three Rivers, 63-54. Hannah Fitz (12 points, 7 rebounds), Tessa Prough (12 points, 8 rebounds) and Olivia Dennis (10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals) led the Bulldogs.
  • Potter’s House Christian picked up a home win over Zion Christian, 39-32. The win moves the Pumas with control of the Alliance League with just two games left to play.
  • Ravenna fell to Shelby, 37-43.
  • Rockford cruised to a 62-35 win over Jenison. The Rams improve to 17-1 with the win. With the loss the Wildcats will fall to 6-13.
  • Schoolcraft pulled out a tight battle over Gobles, 38-36. Erica Barber (10 points, 4 steals), Kennadi Killeen (8 points, 7 rebounds) and Charlotte Zantello (7 points, 5 rebounds) paced the Tigers.
  • Spring Lake was led by a balanced scoring attack in their win over Unity Christian, defeating the Crusaders 53-42. Ella Andree (14 points), Tessa Britt (12 points, 8 rebounds), Brooke Bolthouse (10 points, 3 steals) and Alexa Carter (8 points, 10 rebounds) led the way for the Lakers. Maleya Obande was big for the Crusaders with 22 points. Unity Christian falls to 8-11. The Lakers will improve to 8-9.
  • West Catholic continued what has been a dominant season for the Falcons as they stay undefeated on the year by defeating Coopersville, 70-24. West Catholic got off to another great start in this one as they held a 41-17 halftime advantage.
  • West Ottawa picked up a win over Caledonia, 64-57. It was a big night for Gabby Reynolds as she passed the 1,000 point mark in career scoring. She would lead the Panthers with 26 in the game. Magaly Lemus helped with a big night of her own in scoring 20. Chelsea Overbeek added 14.
  • Zeeland West grabbed a tough win over Mona Shores, 41-38. Jordan Klaasen led all scorers with 16 points. Kara Bartels added 8 points. Ally Yonker pitched in 7 points. Khaleeya Cook (13 points) and Logan Clausen (8 points) paced the Sailors.

2/15/23

  • Loy Norrix picked up a tough win over Hanover-Horton, 35-32. Lilyana Coleman (14 points) and Kennedy Lockett (10 points) led the Knights. Loy Norrix improves to 9-10. The Comets will fall to 7-12. This was a defensive battle throughout as the Knights held a 17-14 lead at the half.
  • Portage Central defeated Portage Northern, 31-27.
  • Ravenna pulled out a tough win over White Cloud, 27-24.

2/16/23

  • Fremont picked up a tough win at Whitehall on Thursday night, 30-21. Lily VandenBerg (8 points), Mia Clemence (7 points) and Olivia Hansen (11 rebounds) led the Packers. Fremont has now won 3 in a row as they improve to 8-13. The loss drops the Vikings to 10-10.
  • Hart traveled to Hesperia and cruised to a 64-7 win over the Panthers. It was all Pirates on the night as they held a 46-1 lead at the half. The win secures a WMC Rivers division championship for the Pirates. Addi Hovey had a huge night to lead Hart with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Abby Hicks added 12 points and 6 steals. Aspen Boutell pitched in 7 points and 4 steals. Mariana VanAgtmael helped with 6 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
  • Kalamazoo Central continues their impressive season by winning their 18th game in a row as they knocked off Portage Central, 61-39.
  • Lake City cruised to a 49-22 win over Manton. Kenzie Bisballe had a big night to the lead the Trojans with 15 points and 6 rebounds.
  • Loy Norrix fell to Battle Creek Central, 31-46. Kennedy Lockett paced the Knights with 13 points.
  • Montague came away with a 57-38 win over Manistee. Addison Pranger (13 points, 8 rebounds), Braylyn Bultema (11 points), Lauren Smith (10 points) and Ella King (5 points, 6 rebounds, 9 steals) led the Wildcats who improve to 13-7 with their 3rd win in a row. The Wildcats put together a big 3rd quarter to take control of the game.
  • North Muskegon would drop their 3rd game in a row in a loss to Holton, falling to the Red Devils 38-49. Grace Philpot (8 points), Lucy Fricke (8 points, 11 rebounds), Marilyn Gaston (8 points, 6 rebounds,2 blocks) and Fran Vinson (8 points, 5 rebounds) paced the Norse. Abbie Fowler was big to lead Holton with 20 points. Courtney Boes added 13 points.

2/17/23

  • Big Rapids knocked off Newaygo, 63-21. Grace Painter led the Lions with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Amaya Lathrop finished with 8 points. Addison Goodin grabbed 14 rebounds. Newaygo finishes 3-7 in conference and 6-14 overall. The Cardinals finish 10-0 in conference and 18-2 overall.
  • Forest Hills Central picked up a win over Greenville, 43-35. Megan Leslie led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points. Alexus Dunn finished with 9.
  • Forest Hills Eastern picked up a win over Cedar Springs, 37-30. This one was tight throughout as the Hawks held just a 21-18 lead at the half.
  • Forest Hills Northern defeated East Grand Rapids, 50-56. Macy Brown had a big night for the Pioneers with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. MC Millman added 11 points and 5 rebounds.
  • Gobles beat Holland Black River, 50-30. Deanna Wood (14 points), Kaya Huizenga (10 points) and Charlotte Zantello (8 points, 8 rebounds) led the Tigers.
  • Grand Rapids Catholic Central picked up a win over Ottawa Hills on Friday night, 59-30. The Cougars improve to 10-10 on the season. With the loss Ottawa Hills drops their 5th in a row to fall to 5-15.
  • Grand Rapids Christian knocked off Lowell, 67-60. Braxcynn Baker finished with 24 points to lead the Lady Red Arrows. Taryn Jackson was big with 22 points.
  • Hackett Catholic Prep with a big win over Lawton, 33-17. Alyse Baughman had a big night with 15 points, 13 rebounds and 3 steals. Layne Ridderman added 11 points and 6 rebounds. McKenzee Terpstra finished with 11 points to lead the Lady Blue Devils.
  • Hamilton picked up a home win over Spring Lake, 48-41. The Hawkeyes led this one 26-19 at the half before the Lakers were able to keep it close the rest of the way. Kyra Kleinhecksel led Hamilton with 19 points. The Hawkeyes are now 14-6 overall and 9-3 in the OK Blue. The Lakers were led by Ella Andree with 20 points and 2 steals. Alexa Carter finished with 8 points. Brooke Bolthouse pitched in 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. A big matchup with West Catholic looms for the Hawkeyes in their next outing. Spring Lake will take on Fruitport as they look to bounce back.
  • Kalamazoo Christian knocked off Constantine, 55-11. The Comets improve to 17-3 on the season. With the loss the Falcons fall to 3-17.
  • Kent City put together a big win on Senior Night over Grant, 73-33. Lexie Bowers with a big night to lead the Eagles with 32 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks. Madelyn Geers was big with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.
  • Martin secured a conference championship with their win over Galesburg-Augusta, 52-46. The Clippers improve to 15-4 overall and 9-0 in conference play. Martin found themselves down at the half 21-27 before putting together a big second half on both ends. Makala Goddard had a monster night to put up a career-high with 25 points (6 three-pointers) for the Clippers. Cirsten Coburn added 13 points (3 three-pointers).
  • Mona Shores picked up a win at Zeeland East, 46-26. Khaleeya Cook (13 points), Ali Phillips (10 points and Laynie Russell (7 points) led the Sailors. Emily Wierenga (13 points) and Mirra Fenlon (9 points) paced the Chix.
  • Otsego dropped a tough matchup to Plainwell, 41-42. The Bulldogs were led by Hannah Fitz with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Haley Guerrant pitched in 10 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Rockford put together yet another dominant performance to upended West Ottawa, 52-30. With the win the Rams win the OK Red conference title for the first time since 2010, and they improve to 18-1 on the season. Rockford wins the conference for the first time in 13 years as this is a team that continues to be a scary team come playoff time. The Rams will have a quick turnaround when they welcome in undefeated Haslett on Saturday.
  • Three Rivers fell to Paw Paw, 46-64.
  • West Catholic with such a dominant win that you would need to do a double take as they defeated Fruitport, 74-2. They remain undefeated on the season and have had it on cruise control since late December by dismantling opponents early and often. Reese Polega led West Catholic with 15 points on the night. Elisha Dykstra (13 points), Paige Seely-London (11 points) and Cadence Dykstra (10 points) helped with what was a complete performance for the Falcons (three others with at least 7 points on the night).

2/18/23

  • Edwardsburg came out firing as they picked up a win over Niles, 77-14. Caitlin Tighe (14 points, 5 steals), Chloe Baker (14 points, 5 steals), Maddie Pobuda (14 points, 5 assists) and Kourtney Zarcki (10 points) helped what was a balanced attack for the Lady Eddies.
  • Fennville fell to Saugatuck, 25-47. The Trailblazers gained momentum when they led 27-13 after one half of play. Kyli Bushee led the Blackhawks with 9 points.
  • Rockford continues their historic season as they knock off previously undefeated Haslett, 50-36. Alyssa Wypych had 17 points, while Sienna Wolfe added 11.
