The Zeeland West Dux secured a share of the OK Green title in 2022 with a dominant 58-8 victory over the Union Red Hawks on Friday night. After Muskegon’s shocking victory over Mona Shores, the Dux, Big Reds and Sailors will all split the conference championship this year.

For Zeeland West, it was a thorough, all-around domination in the Dux final tune-up before the playoffs. The Dux scored the first 58 points of the game while stifling the Red Hawks offense all night long.

The Dux got the scoring started early when Brody Maas scampered for a 44-yard score a little over four minutes into the game. From there, the two-headed monster of Parker Holman and Skyler Geurink took over, combining for five rushing touchdowns in the first half. Four of those scores belonged to Holman, who has had a stellar senior season and is one of the area leaders in touchdowns this year. Zeeland West led 46-0 at the break.

A couple more touchdowns for the Dux pushed the lead to 58-0 in the second half, before Elijah Taylor found the end zone with just over four minutes to go to prevent the Red Hawks from being shutout.

For the game, the Dux only ran 23 total plays, all rushing plays. They never had a scoring drive longer than eight plays and scored three touchdowns on the first play of the drive. The Dux ran for 461 yards, almost doubling the number of total yards for the Red Hawks in less than half of the number of plays.

Holman only rushed the ball four times; he scored every time. For the game, Holman finished with four carries for an incredible 268 yards and four touchdowns. Geurink rushed six times for 38 yards and a touchdown of his own. For the Red Hawks, Taylor and his quarterback Tommy Stevens ran for 108 yards each.

Union’s season ends at 4-5. After a 3-0 start, the Red Hawks finished 1-5 with their only win coming via forfeit. As for Zeeland West, they will certainly take some time to enjoy winning their share of the conference title. However, the Dux won’t be able to celebrate for too long as they await Selection Sunday and finding out their first round opponent in the playoffs.
