The Cedar Springs Red Hawks started the 2022 season with four straight defeats. With their Week 8 victory over Middleville on Friday night, they have now remarkably evened their season record at 4-4. It was a convincing win as well, capturing the 46-21 victory.

Despite falling in this game, the Trojans scored first. Carsen Burbridge found Zack Gibson on a 7-yard touchdown toss. After a successful PAT, Middleville led 7-0.

Cedar Springs would rally with a pair of first quarter touchdowns. First, Carter Falan broke through on the right side of the field, racing 30 yards for a touchdown. With a minute left in the frame, Rory Schoenborn ripped off a 44-yard dart to the end zone. The Red Hawks took their 16-7 edge into the second quarter.

As was the case in the first frame, Middleville scored to start the second quarter. Just sixteen seconds in, Burbridge found Ethan Bonnema on a 52-yard touchdown toss. Cedar Springs would again answer on a Ryan West keeper to take a 23-14 lead at halftime.

The Red Hawks scored three consecutive touchdowns to start the second half of play. First, it was Ryan West who kept the football for his second score. Schoenborn (55 yards) and Falan (3 yards) added to the Cedar Springs tally.

Middleville would post a late touchdown on a Brody Wiersma run of three yards.

Carter Falan (101) and Rory Schoenborn (106) eclipsed the century mark on the ground for Cedar Springs. As a team, the victors rushed 44 times for 342 yards and six scores. Middleville’s Carson Burbridge finished 13/22 passing for 128 yards, and he added 42 rushing yards to his tally.

The 4-4 Red Hawks will look to snag a playoff spot next week, when they meet up against 4-4 Wayland. Middleville, now 2-6 on the year, will conclude their season against Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
