The Grandville Bulldogs and West Ottawa Panthers squared off in an OK Red battle in Grandville. The host Bulldogs got out to a hot start, and carried that momentum forward for a 35-14 victory.
Carson Kopko got Grandville started by firing through the West Ottawa defense for a 56-yard touchdown sprint. Brayden LaCroix hauled in the conversion pass. With two minutes left in the first quarter, Kopko reeled off a 25-yard run to the end zone. His second score, paired with a Carson Smith conversion, put Grandville ahead 16-0 after the first quarter.
Kayden Forbes responded for West Ottawa in the second quarter, as he powered across the goal line from two yards out. The score would hold for seven minutes, before Carson Smith kept the football for a 17-yard scamper. A pair of failed conversions brought the count to 22-6 in favor of Grandville at halftime.
There was just one scoring play in the third quarter, and it came defensively. Logan Stockwell stepped in front of a Cole Tulgestke pass, racing 22 yards for a touchdown. Grandville would extend their lead early in the fourth, when Smith and LaCroix connected on a 47-yard touchdown pass.
In game’s final minute, Desmond Chapa got West Ottawa on the scoreboard again with a 21-yard touchdown run.
Grandville had a pair of 100+ yard rushers in this victory. Carson Kopko led the way with 116 yards on just six carries. Jayden ‘Tank’ Terry was held out of the end zone, but he turned 11 carries into 100 yards. Kayden Forbes paced West Ottawa with 113 rushing yards on 20 carries.
Next week, Grandville (4-0) will take on Caledonia in a huge game in the OK Red title race. West Ottawa (2-2) will look to snap their losing skid against winless Hudsonville.
