The MHSAA Girls Basketball playoffs began on Monday night with First Round District games. Those scores, some highlights, and Wednesday’s semifinal matchups are listed below. Results are sorted by Division and District.

 

DIVISION 1 DISTRICT 9 at Lowell

Forest Hills Central 58 Northview 37: The Rangers raced out to a 16-4 first quarter lead, and they never looked back. This victory completes the three-game season sweep for FHC over Northview.

Greenville 43 Cedar Springs 38: The ‘Jackets secured a 15-5 first quarter advantage, and although the Red Hawks rallied, they could not break even. Jordyn Keselring led Greenville with 15 points, while Alexus Dunn added 14.

Lowell 64 Forest Hills Northern 46: The Red Arrows defeated the Huskies in a conference battle that was a playoff-opening rematch. Piper Risdon (18), Braxcynn Baker (17) and Lexi Howell (12) were in double figures for the victors.

East Grand Rapids 52 Middleville 29: The Pioneers took a step in pursuing their third straight district title, advancing past the Trojans in round one. Macy Brown led EGR with 19 points, while Eliana Lamange added 8.

Caledonia 64 Wyoming 20: The Fighting Scots got a blistering start against the Wolves at home on Monday. Morgan Babb scored 9 first quarter points on her way to a 23-point performance. Mackenzie Devries added 8, as the Scots advanced. Marissa Menard led Wyoming with 10 points.

Tri-County 43 Central Montcalm 26: The Vikings defeated the Hornets in a conference rematch. Tri-County was led by Mary Siple, who scored 10 points. Maia Sexton scored 12 for Central Montcalm.

Whitehall 64 Orchard View 23: The Vikings defeated the Cardinals in an opening round playoff game on Monday. Charley Klint scored 23 points to pace Whitehall, adding 8 rebounds and 7 steals. Lola Buckner and Ashley Tenbrink each added 10-point efforts, while McKena Coron tossed in 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Fremont 51 Comstock Park 45: The Packers advanced the Panthers in the first round of the playoffs. Fremont was led by Haley Zerlaut, who finished with 22 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Mia Witte added a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Jessica Bennett chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds.

North Muskegon 37 Shelby 35: The Norsemen stunned the Tigers in the playoff opener on Monday. North Muskegon controlled the basketball, with only 8 turnovers. Josee Cooke led NM offensively with 11 points, while Molly Stewart added 8. Stewart also played great defense as the “one” in their box-and-one on Shelby’s Kendall Zoulek. Zoulek finished with 21 points in defeat, but she struggled from the floor in a 5/20 shooting night. As a team, Shelby was just 11/46.

MCE got out to a 9-3 first quarter lead, and used an 11-2 third quarter advantage to create separation on the scoreboard. Hilary Howe (13) and Corinna Hernandez (9) paced MCE offensively. Amelie Thompson and Jackie Cole each scored 6 for Crossroads in defeat.
