The Freeland Falcons welcomed the Goodrich Martins to town in the playoff opener for both schools. In the end of a defensive game, Freeland emerged with a 22-3 victory.
Freeland took the opening drive, and they went 15 plays, covering 80 yards in 7.5 minutes. Garret Pistro capped off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown. In the second quarter, Jacob Kundinger booted a 25-yard field goal to give Freeland a 9-0 halftime advantage.
Coming out of the locker room, Goodrich put together their best drive. The Martians went nine plays, covered 44 yards, and they came away with a 47-yard field goal on the leg of Caden Kolanowski. On this drive, the Martians got all three of their first downs.
In the fourth quarter, Freeland iced it with two touchdowns. First, Pistro returned to the end zone with a 1-yard plunge. Later in the frame, Jacob Kundinger capped off a 6-play march with an 8-yard touchdown.
Garrett Pistro finished with 23 carries, 135 yards and two touchdowns. Freeland advances to next week’s District Finals. The Falcons will be on the road when they face off against Lake Fenton.
