The Kent City Eagles took on the Hartford Indians on Saturday afternoon in a non-league battle. A hot start propelled the Eagles to a convincing victory, 46-6.
In the first quarter, Kent City scored 26 points. They would add thirteen points in the second frame to take a 39-0 lead into the locker room. The Eagles scored once in the third quarter, before Hartford wrapped up the game with a touchdown. The score by the Indians was their first of the 2021 season. Julian Rodarte ran in the Indians’ first touchdown of the year, snapping a 31-quarter scoring drought.
Six different Eagles scored for Kent City in the victory. Mason Westbrook scored two touchdowns on just eight carries, racking up 66 yards. Chase Moreno, Kyler Larson, Jim Anderson, Joe VanOefflin, and Webb Longcore each had one rushing touchdown. Dylan Sutton was 4 for 7 on extra point attempts. On defense, Kyle Montarusso led all Eagles with 7 tackles. Dylan Schutt and Jim Anderson each recorded 5 tackles apiece.
With this victory, Kent City improves to 5-2 on the year. They will wrap up the regular season against Grant. Hartford, now 0-8, will square off with South Haven in their season finale.
