Lowell started the 2021 season with two straight losses and a 1-4 record. Over the past three weeks, the Red Arrows have turned their season around. With Friday’s 42-16 win over Greenville, they now have strengthened their playoff case with their 4-3 record.

The first quarter was slow starting with just one touchdown. Carter Blough found the end zone on a 17-yard carry, pushing the Red Arrows in front by seven.

Greenville would answer in the second quarter, as Isaac Dailey broke off an 11-yard score. A blocked extra point left the ‘Jackets behind by a point. Lowell answered with two scores to extend their lead at the break. Tacho Gonzalas got in the scoring column for the first time this year, rushing for two touchdowns in the second quarter. He followed up a 20-yard run with a 1-yard plunge at the eight-second mark of the frame, giving Lowell a 21-6 lead.

Carter Blough extended the lead for Lowell early in the third quarter, when he carried across the goal line from two yards out. Noah Foster snapped Lowell’s run with a 31-yard field goal for the ‘Jackets.

In the fourth quarter, Carter Blough struck again. He ran a 5-yard touchdown to push the Red Arrows in front by 26 points. AJ Fox answered for Greenville, when he tossed an 80-yard deep ball to Logan Boyer. On the ensuing kickoff, Connor Lixie fielded the kick and navigated through the kickoff coverage for an 80-yard score. This is Lixie’s third kickoff return score of the year, his first since a pair of kickoff returns against Mona Shores.

Lowell ran on all 46 offensive plays, racking up 332 yards. Carter Blough led the way with 24 carries and 214 yards. Tacho Gonzalas added 105 yards on 14 carries.

Next week, Lowell will look to secure a playoff berth in their finale against Byron Center. Greenville, who has now lost seventeen straight games, will look to snap their streak in their finale against Forest Hills Northern.
