The St Louis Sharks took a tough loss against Ithaca in Week 6 of the MHSAA season. They looked to bounce back on Friday, as they faced Saginaw Nouvel. A hot start would be just enough for the Sharks, as they won 14-12.
St Louis scored the first two touchdowns in this game. Reece Giles took to the air to get the scoring started, as he found Michael Baysah for a 29-yard touchdown. Later in the first quarter, the Sharks relied on a bit of trickery. Tailback Ignatius Jackson took to the air, finding Trenton Farkas for a 66-yard score. This gave St Louis a 14-0 lead.
Nouvel would trim the margin in the second quarter, when Kyler Peters found Jonathan Tunney for a 10-yard score. A failed conversion left the score at 14-6, in favor of St Louis, as the game went to halftime.
In the fourth quarter, Nouvel found the end zone again. The Panthers slipped through the defense for a short touchdown run, but they failed to covert the two-point attempt. Trailing by two, Nouvel was unable to make up the deficit.
With the win, St Louis improves to 5-2 on the year. This is the largest win total for the Sharks since 2019, when they posted a 6-5 overall record. With TVC-West II play behind them, St Louis has two more contests to solidify their playoff position. They will take on Standish-Sterling next Friday. As for Nouvel, the Panthers are now 3-4. Next week, Nouvel will face Hemlock.
